Feed The Hungry

Bend’s Community Center opens its doors every Sunday to help feed and clothe those most in need. Founded in 2005, the Feed The Hungry program (FTH) is now the largest food kitchen in Central Oregon, providing more than 3,000 meals per month to hungry and homeless seniors, men, women and children in our community! Every Sunday, BCC provides free breakfast, lunch and dinner – along with hundreds of sack lunches and leftovers to go. In addition, BCC provides hundreds of meals for residents of Shepherds House, other local food kitchens and the surrounding homeless camps.

Keep Them Warm (KTW) is a related initiative that collects and distributes free camping and outdoor survival equipment (e.g. tents, sleeping bags, coats, tarps, gloves, socks, etc.) to the homeless. Showers at BCC are also available at no charge Sunday’s from 9 am to 1 pm. BCC is committed to providing for the basic needs of every member of our community.

FTH operates each Sunday from 8 am – 4 pm at BCC (1036 NE 5th Street in Bend). Participants are free to socialize, watch TV, or just get out of the Central Oregon weather.

Volunteers are needed to help prepare and/or serve food in shifts of 2-4 hours from 7:00 am – 5:00 pm on Sunday and from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm Monday- Wednesday and Friday.  Please contact our volunteer coordinator at: volunteer@bendscommunitycenter.org to see what times are available. If you have filled out the volunteer application and would like to sign up to serve, CLICK HERE. Thank you in advance for your service!

Tax deductible cash donations can be sent to BCC, or you are welcome to make an online donation by clicking on the DONATE button on the right of any page on this site. Please make checks payable to Bend’s Community Center.  Your donation is always welcome.  Food donations and outdoor survival gear can also be dropped off during regular business hours (Monday-Friday from 9:00 am-4:00 pm). Again, thank you for your support!

BCC is seeking community sponsors to assist with the Feed The Hungry program. Local businesses, churches, organizations, schools, civic groups and others can “adopt” one (or more) Sundays a year. The sponsor agrees to provide 6-12 volunteers to set-up, cook, serve and clean-up afterwards. In addition, the group provides $500 to pay for the costs of food, personal care items and other supplies needed to operate the program. This is an incredible team-building activity for your local Bend area business, as well as a way for school-age children to learn the value of giving back to the community in which they live.
