Community Support
Bend’s Community Center is dedicated to creating meaningful partnerships with other community
organizations and businesses. As a result, over the years BCC has received substantial support
towards the renovation of the building and development of all its programs. Businesses, churches,
service clubs, foundations and indviduals have contributed funds, volunteer labor and lots of in-kind
donations. A partial listing of this community support includes:
NeighborImpact
- provides thousands of dollars worth of food through the Oregon Food Bank Network
Leadership Bend
- provided new landscaping, repaved and repainted the entire parking lot, replaced front entry steps and concrete work, plus installed new exterior lighting around the whole building.
Cornerstone Construction
- donated labor, building materials and furnishings to complete two ADA-accessible bathrooms, new office space and replaced windows and doors.
Karnopp Petersen
- major benefactor for the Feed The Hungry Program; hosted Christmas Dinner for the Homeless from 2006-2009
Kirby Nagelhout Construction
- general contractor in the remodel and expansion of BCC’s 25-year old kitchen.
Rotary Club of Greater Bend
- major benefactor for the Feed The Hungry Program and made a challenge grant to assist the kitchen remodel efforts.
New Hope Church
- provided volunteers for several projects and made a significant donation to Feed the Hungry.
Bargreen Ellingson
- designed the layout and helped procure equipment for the remodel/expansion of BCC’s 25-year old kitchen.
Chow Restaurant
- donated food and labor for several BCC fundraising events.
Jeld-Wen Foundation
- made a significant grant toward the BCC kitchen remodel and expansion.
Mirror Pond Cleaners
- dry cleans all dresses for Becca’s Closet.
Marshall High School
- MHS students have provided thousands of volunteer hours on interior and exterior projects, primarily through the SATIN (Students Assisting Those In Need) class.
Deschutes County Commission
- made significant contributions towards the kitchen remodel and the clothes baling operation.
Saxon’s Jewelers
- Sponsor of our “Jewelz for Food” fundraisers.
Central Oregon Roofing
- donated labor and materials to replace the front half of BCC’s roof.
Volunteer Connect
- provides volunteers to all of BCC’s programs.

- hosted several benefit events for the BikeShed.
Paige Family Foundation
- made significant donations to the Feed The Hungry Program and the kitchen remodel.
Robert Biedermann
- provided skilled volunteer labor on numerous projects at BCC, the thriftstore and the warehouse.

- through the Bend Foundation, has made significant contributions to the Feed The Hungry Program, the kitchen remodel and general operations.
US Bank
- made significant grants toward the clothes baling operation and job training equipment and supplies.
Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation
- made a significant grant to help start the Feed The Hungry Program.
Combined Communications
- holds a promotion for Becca’s Closet twice a year and promotes fundraising for survival gear (Keep Them Warm program).
Oregon Community Foundation
- made significant grants to assist with staffing capacity and the kitchen upgrade.
Pak It Liquidators
- donated building materials, supplies and equipment and provided storage for donated items.
Bowerman Advised Fund
- provided numerous grants to support the Feed The Hungry Program and BCC operations.
City of Bend
- awarded CDBG grants for accessibility improvements and repair of the BCC roof.
Deschutes Plumbing
- donated bathroom fixtures and provided labor for North end remodel.
Jerry Weick
- made and donated cabinets for the cafe, the mini-kitchen remodel, and the new administration offices; regular volunteer with Feed The Hungry.
The Collins Foundation
- made a significant grant toward the BCC kitchen remodel and expansion.
Select Wood Floors
- refinished original hardwood floors in main hall plus ongoing maintenance, donation of building supplies.
Beacon Church
- made financial contribution and provided extensive volunteer work, including removing tile, replacing flooring and reupholstering all the cafe chairs.
Deschutes Brewery
- donated food and labor for several BCC fundraising events; regular donor to Feed The Hungry.
Central Oregon Building Supply
- donating lumber, sheetrock and other building supplies to improve disabled access.
Knife River (formerly Hap Taylor & Sons)
- resurfaced and restriped the parking lot and made new cement parking bumpers.
Denfeld Paints
- donated all the paint needed for the interior and exterior painting of the Center
United Way of Deschutes County
- BCC is proud to be a United Way agency.
Central Oregon Heating
- installed air conditioning at cost (half-price).
Central Oregon Veterans Outreach
- donated kitchen and office equipment, helped purchase an alarm system.
Sunriver Nature Center
- donated hundreds of hangers, chairs, articles of clothing, and many other items for the Thrift store.
Gary Johansen, Architect
- helped design remodel plans.
Humane Society Thriftstore
- regularly donates items for BCC’s Thrift store.
Carlson Sign Company
- provided exterior signs for BCC and the Thrift store.
Ray’s, Albertson’s, Erickson’s, and Safeway
- donate food and other items to the Feed The Hungry.
Miller Lumber
- donated or offered reduced rates on building materials, supplies and equipment.
Bend Garbage and Recycling
- donated used baler for clothes baling operations.
Dr. Mary Ellen Coulter
- donated a second copy machine, desks, chairs, computers, pictures, office supplies, etc.
Bend Rugby Club
- regularly helps with transporting items to other facilities or the landfill and helps with Feed The Hungry Program.
Rodda Paint
- donated 600 gallons of paint for a special fundraiser paint sale.
City Church
- donates funds and volunteers for the Feed The Hungry Program.
Bend Memorial Clinic
- provided furniture, used computers and volunteers to kick-off the kitchen remodel.
Hola Restaurant
- donated food and held a Tequila Tasting fundraiser for the Feed The Hungry Program.
Johnson Electric
- provided the electrical work needed to replace the fluorescent lights in the main hall.
TransCanada
- made a contribution to support general operations.
Quincy Street Band
- organized and played in several benefit concerts for the Feed The Hungry Program.
Heart of Oregon Corps
- teens have donated hundreds of volunteer hours on projects at BCC and the thriftstore and are taking the lead role in Bend’s Community BikeShed.

- donated new cabinets for the bathrooms as part of the BCC remodel.

- donated mattresses to the BCC Thriftstore.

- created the BCC logo.

- donated dishes, pots and pans, deli case, and other kitchen equipment.

- donated flooring materials and labor for the thriftstore and cafe.

- provided chain link fence around parking lot to increase security and reduce theft.
